Ever walk around an art gallery and wonder how Van Gogh created that texture, Monet chose those colours, or what the hell Dali meant by that apple? I’m going to run a 4 week course looking at 4 different art movements: realism, impressionism, expressionism and surrealism.

Each week we’ll look at a variety of paintings created by artists within that ‘art movement’ and then we’ll paint our own subject in that style. This will give you a whole host of new techniques, colour palettes and compositions in your armour to take forward within your own art.

For example a vase of flowers in Elaine de Kooning’s style would be really different than in Rene Magritte’s style. Let’s look at the differences and admire the different techniques. I’ll teach you how to do them and be inspired by some of the ‘greats’.

We’ll use a range of different materials, depending on the week including acrylics, pastels and pen, maybe even a little watercolour!

There will be a balance of step-by-step techniques and going at your own pace.

Suitable for complete beginners or those looking to level up their style.

MATERIALS INCLUDED.

Spaces are limited. More info below.

Why this class?

Be inspired by some of ‘the greats’ and pick up some new techniques to use in your own paintings. Not only will it be really enjoyable learning about why many artists did what they did, but you’ll get to try it out on your own artwork too. By the end of the course you’ll leave with 4-8 of your own paintings covering a mix of realism, expressionism, impressionism and surrealism.

You’ll get to try out a range of different drawing and painting mediums.

Suitable for beginners.

Learn some new skills, have a chat and zone out! There will be a maximum of 6 in the class and I keep a very relaxed class.

Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided, but you’re also welcome to BYOB.

Venue

The venue is my studio in Busby. It’s approx 10 minute walk from Busby Train Station and the number 6 bus stop.

The studio is on the first floor with no lift access, apologies if that causes any accessibility issues for you.

Timings

Class will start promptly at 6.30pm, so please arrive 5 minutes early to allow for settling in. Class will end at 9pm.

Cancellation policy

Fingers crossed there won’t be any disruptions to class, but in the case the class needs to be cancelled, I’ll offer a full refund or transfer to another class. If you have purchased a ticket and can no longer make it, I have a 72 hour cancellation policy. If cancelled more than 72 hours before, I’ll offer a full refund or transfer to another class, but unfortunately if within the 72 hours and I’m unable to fill the spot (I will try the waiting list!) then I can’t offer a refund.
