Surrounded by the work of Mackintosh, we’ll focus on his botanical watercolour paintings - learning his techniques and creating our own versions.
MATERIALS ARE PROVIDED. Lunch (Soup and Sandwich) and the building tour are included in the ticket price.
Spaces are limited. More info below.
Why this class?
What better way of learning how to use watercolours than learning from one of the Scottish Greats?!
The painting will start with an overview on how to use watercolours, focusing on the techniques that Charles Rennie Mackintosh used in his botanical watercolours. Floral paintings work brilliantly with watercolours, so you’re sure to leave with a painting you’re proud of. We’ll create a little ‘cheat sheet’ of processes and techniques, so you will leave with the knowledge of how to create other paintings at home.
We will then learn a little about Mackintosh and how he painted/created. Followed by plenty of time to work on your paintings.
This is suitable for complete beginners and all materials are provided so you don’t need to bring a thing.
A lovely afternoon away from it all to learn some new skills, have a chat and be inspired by the wonderful Charles Rennie Mackintosh! I always make sure classes are relaxed and you’ll go at your own pace, whether a beginner or someone with a drawing/painting experience.
Alongside the painting there is a fantastic tour of the historic building, plus tea, coffee and scones with cream and jam will be served at our lunch break. These are all included in the price.
Venue
The venue is Mackintosh at the Willow on Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow. The building is beautiful and absolutely iconic, so you’ll be inspired as you paint, and enjoy the luxuries of the Tea Room. It is accessible to all, but if you do have any questions about the venue, please do not hesitate to get in contact with them ahead of the class: oliver@willowtearoomstrust.org or 0141 332 7696
Timings
The workshop begins with a tour of the historic building at 10.30am prompt, followed by the watercolour workshop. There will be a break for scones and tea in the middle, in the beautiful tearooms. The workshop will end at 4pm.
