Outdoor Painting Class | Sun 22 June 1-4pm | Adult Art Class
Time: 1-4pm
Date: Sun 22nd June 2025
Location: Linn Park, Clarkston Road, Glasgow - Meeting outside ‘The Linn’ Coffee Shop (562 Clarkston Rd, Glasgow G44 3RT)
Let’s go ‘En Plein Air’.
All the masters did it, and now you can too! One of the main barriers people feel to painting outside is not knowing where to start, so I’m going to show you where! The other barrier is that people will watch you. And that’s true, they might, but at least you’re going to be in a class of people all doing the same!
We’ll be practicing observational drawing of nature up close, and landscapes further away. We’ll have watercolours to do a little painting too, if you fancy, or some coloured pencils/fineliners for more ‘sketchy’ results.
This class is suitable for all abilities and I’ll be demonstrating each picture before you try it yourself. There will be plenty of time for you to choose your own view too, based on what you’ve learned.
I will have materials for you to use, but would definitely recommend bringing your own sketchbook as it’s a great way of documenting what you’ve done throughout the day. See below for what materials I’ll be bringing.
Please bring weather appropriate attire. See cancellation policy below. But unless it’s a super sunny day, layers are advised, along with something to sit on. A plastic bag is fine, but if you’d rather a camping chair or gardening pad, that’s good too! We will have to walk through the park, so please bear this in mind for carrying things!
More info below.
Why this class?
It’s all about sketching outside. Taking the scariness away from opening up your sketchbook in the park and making some art. Perfect for beginner or intermediate levels I’ll breakdown the best ways to start, materials to use, how to get the best composition and few wee cool tricks along the way.
Enjoy an afternoon away from it all to learn some new skills, have a chat and enjoy nature! It’ll be really relaxed, no pressure painting.
I’ll bring the biscuits, if you bring your drink.
Where will we meet?
We will meet outside The Linn Cafe on Clarkston Road, then cross the road to go drawing from there. Feel free to grab a drink before we go into the park if you like! Closest train station is Muirend about a 10 minute walk. There is free on-street parking around the park but can be busy at times.
The class will take place between this entrance and working our way down to the bridge for some lovely views along the way.
Timings
We will head into the park promptly at 1pm, so please arrive 5 minutes early to allow for the head count! Class will end at 4pm.
Materials List
All materials are provided. However, if you’d prefer to use your own or different materials, you’re more than welcome to bring them along. We won’t really have time or space for set up of easels, oil paints etc, but portable materials are good! Here’s what we’ll be using:
- Sketchbook / paper
- Pencil, rubber, sharpener
- Watercolour palette
- Water filled brush pen
- Viewfinder
- Watercolour pencils
- Fineliner pen
- Kitchen roll
Cancellation policy / Weather warning
Fingers crossed we’ll have some lovely dry weather in June! However, if it’s pouring of rain, blowing a gale or snowing (it is Scotland…), I will postpone the class to the following weekend (29th June) or offer a full refund. I will contact everyone via email the morning of the class (or evening before) to confirm it will still be going ahead once we see the forecast. However, if it’s just a bit cold, grey then class will still go ahead.
As with all classes, if you have purchased a ticket and can no longer make it, I have a 72 hour cancellation policy. If cancelled more than 72 hours before, I’ll offer a full refund or transfer to another class, but unfortunately if within the 72 hours and I’m unable to fill the spot (I will try the waiting list!) then I can’t offer a refund.
Accessibility
During the class we will be walking around a small area at the front of the park. It’s a bit of a hill in and out of the park, so if you have any worries, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. The park is still open to the public at the time of the class so unfortunately I can’t control other people/animals being around, but we will be sticking together as a group.
