Kids & Adult Outdoor Art Class | Sunday 22nd June 10-11.30am | Family Art Class
Time: 10-11.30pm
Date: Sunday 22nd June 2025
Cost: £40 for 2 people (adult and child) additional £10 for another child.
Location: Linn Park, Clarkston Road, Glasgow - Meeting Outside The Linn Coffee Shop (562 Clarkston Rd, Glasgow G44 3RT)
Outdoor art! All the masters did it, and now you can too!
Come along to paint with your child. You’ll work on your own paintings, but working as a team! It’ll be very encouraging and suitable to follow along for all ages and abilities.
We’ll be practicing drawing nature up close, and landscapes further away. Sketching from what we see, adding some colour and I’ll tailor this to ability on the day so everyone leaves with some beautiful pictures.
As you are bringing your child(ren), I’m happy for all ages to attend but I’d probably recommend 7+.
I will have materials for you to use, but would definitely recommend bringing your own sketchbooks as it’s a great way of documenting what you’ve done throughout the day. See below for what materials I’ll be bringing.
Please bring weather appropriate attire. See cancellation policy below. But unless it’s a super sunny day, layers are advised, along with something to sit on. A plastic bag is fine, but if you’d rather a camping chair or gardening pad, that’s good too! We will have to walk through the park, so please bear this in mind for carrying things!
Please note, children cannot attend alone, this is intended for child and guardian to attend together.
Course content
Outdoor drawing and painting class for one adult and one child to attend. You will each create your own drawings, but work together for a lovely morning out. We will cover off drawing up close, far away and some nice techniques along the way.
Teaching style
I’m an encouraging, nurturing teacher and very much believe every child has their own style, interests and imagination, which shouldn’t be stifled, but shown how to bring it to life! As adults we lose our imaginations and that’s a huge element of creativity and being able to draw.
The class is taught step-by-step so will work for all abilities and a wide age range.
Why this class?
It’s all about sketching outside. Taking the scariness away from opening up your sketchbook in the park and making some art. I’ll tailor the class so kids have fun learning new drawing skills.
Enjoy an afternoon away from it all to learn some new skills, make some art and enjoy nature!
Where will we meet?
We will meet outside The Linn Coffee Shop on Clarkston Road (feel free to grab a drink before we go into the park if you like!) and will cross the road to the big gate entrance. Closest train station is Muirend about a 10 minute walk. There is free on-street parking around the park but can be busy at times.
The class will take place between this entrance and working our way down to the bridge for some lovely views along the way.
Timings
We will head into the park promptly at 10am, so please arrive 5 minutes early to allow for the head count! Class will end at 11.30am.
Materials List
All materials are provided. However, if you’d prefer to use your own or different materials, you’re more than welcome to bring them along. We won’t really have time for set up of easels, paints etc, but portable materials are good! Here’s what we’ll be using:
- Sketchbook / paper
- Pencil, rubber, sharpener
- Water filled brush pen
- Watercolour pencils
- Crayons
- Pens
Cancellation policy / Weather warning
Fingers crossed we’ll have some lovely dry weather in June! However, if it’s pouring of rain, blowing a gale or snowing (it is Scotland), I will postpone the class to the following weekend or offer a full refund. I will contact everyone via email the morning of the class (or evening before) to confirm it will still be going ahead once we see the forecast. However, if it’s just a bit cold, grey then class will still go ahead.
As with all classes, if you have purchased a ticket and can no longer make it, I have a 72 hour cancellation policy. If cancelled more than 72 hours before, I’ll offer a full refund or transfer to another class, but unfortunately if within the 72 hours and I’m unable to fill the spot (I will try the waiting list!) then I can’t offer a refund.
Accessibility
During the class we will be walking around a small area at the front of the park. It’s a bit of a hill in and out of the park, so if you have any worries, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. The park is still open to the public at the time of the class so unfortunately I can’t control other people/animals being around, but we will be sticking together as a group.
Small print
All adults are responsible for the children they bring. We will be beside the river at times and crossing Clarkston Road, so it’s important you know where your child is at all times. Please note tickets cannot be bought just for a single child, they must attend with an adult.
